Meet a few of the mammals we have identified so far!
Porpoises
Jaws
One of our favorites, Jaws was named for the distinctive coloration on its flank which reminded us of a great white shark! We have seen this porpoise many times in the Pass, and since we’ve seen it several times with a calf we think it’s a female.
Dodge
This porpoise is another regular to Burrows Pass. It has many scars and abrasions so has likely had a few “close calls”, but seems to be doing well now. It is one of the original porpoises we identified when starting our photo-ID study.
Seals
Hedwig
Named for an owl like pattern of spots on the back, this young
animal was seen a couple days apart in Burrows Pass.
Treasure
Named for the ‘X marks the spot’ pattern on the back.
We have seen this animal once so far.
